"Mock Crayfish" - there's nothing fake about this yummy starter!
I was recently asked to whip up a vegetarian-friendly, "fancy-wancy" starter.
This mock-crayfish dish was an absolute hit!
The only pretentious thing about this dish is the fact that it looks like a loooot of work because it's so super beautiful, but in actual fact, it took me a whole 20 minutes to make.
What you'll need:
- A Bamboo Steamer or any pan will do
- Haddock Fillets (skin off)
- 2 Lemons
- 4 Tablespoons Mayonnaise
- 2 Tablespoons Tomato Sauce
- Black Pepper
- Butter or Crunchita Lettuce
What to do:
- Start by steaming the fish in your bamboo steamer or in a pan with the lid on for +-8minutes. If you are using the bamboo steamer, remember to line it with baking paper so the fish don't stick to the bottom...this causes the precious bamboo steamer to smell like fish forever! A big no-no!
- Allow the fish to cool for about 5 - 10 minutes after it has been steamed.
- While waiting for the fish to cool, whip up a magic seafood mayo by mixing the mayonnaise, tomato sauce and a teaspoon of lemon juice together. You can make as much sauce as you like. Use the leftovers as a dipping sauce.
- Once the fish is cool, flake it with a fork and mix it in with the sauce.
- Place your lettuce cups in a bowl (I used shells for that extra WOW factor"
- Scoop your fish & sauce mixture onto the lettuce cup.
- Top it off with some black pepper
AND ENJOY!
Easy peasy and your guests think it's chef quality!
